PATRICK DAVID HUGHES
Patrick "Pat" David Hughes, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, February 20, 2026 at the age of 87.
Pat was born on October 13, 1938 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg and spent his childhood years in three different homes all located on Bowman Ave. He worked for a time as a pin setter at Billy Mosienko Bowling Alley before embarking on a 38-year career in Accounting at the Winnipeg Free Press followed by 10 years working at Club Regent Casino.
Pat loved to travel and took many trips with Carol, to destinations such as Hong Kong, Hawaii, Mexico and Las Vegas as well as several legendary road and camping trips with the whole family to Vancouver, Niagara Falls and New York. He greatly enjoyed gathering with family and friends and was always up for a game of cards, a casino outing or watching the Winnipeg Jets or Blue Bombers. He was also a handyman and undertook many projects around the home such as basement finishing and deck building.
Pat is predeceased by his parents, Patrick Sr. and Mary Hughes, and by his daughter Bonnie Hughes. He is survived by his loving wife Carol; daughter Tracy Bajno (Rob); sons, Michael (Lisa) and Daniel (Joyelle); his sister Colleen Grossmeyer (Nick) and his nine grandchildren, Hanna, Abigayle, Bonnie (Connor), Michael, Emma, Sara, Olivia, Joshua and Nathan.
Pat will be remembered as a man of few words who loved to tell a story or launch a zinger if the opportunity arose. He always enjoyed a good meal with family, a Rye and Coke, and a good laugh and he will be missed very much by all who knew and loved him.
We'd like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff who took care of Pat in the hospitals and at Middlechurch Personal Care Home during his final difficult months.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 4, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg.
